A person who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys aged nine and 10.
The accused was arrested after eight youngsters and one adult became sick at the location in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
However, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was held in detention before a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.
Ruben played a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in recently.
The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC explained materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his stepchild alerted the police about his suspicions.
She said the defendant continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not gone out by that stage," she added.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The legal representative stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities again.
She stated the man then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
